Join Elizabeth as she talks about her culinary tribute to the people of Japan's Tohoku (Northeast). Come celebrate the rich food culture of the region with samples of food and saké from the book.

Japan's Tohoku was devastated by earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear accident on March 11, 2011. A portion of the proceeds from the publication will be donated to Japan's recovery efforts.

A Taste of Culture

culinary arts program combines spicy tidbits of food lore with practical tips and skill-building lessons on how to prepare Japanese food. Programs are conducted in Japan (Tokyo & Osaka) and offer a unique opportunity for foreign residents and visitors from overseas to explore and enjoy Japan's culture through its food. Instruction, by Elizabeth Andoh, is in English.

FISH, FISH, FISH

Saturday, January 21 (10:30 am to 1:30 pm)

Prepare three classic Japanese fish dishes -- simmered, skillet-seared, steamed -- in this 3-hour, hands-on cooking class. Lunch includes rice, soup and several vegetable side dishes.

 

 

SUSHI-ROLLING WORKSHOP

for Setsubun Festival

Tuesday, January 24 (10:30 am to 1:30 pm)


Learn to make eihō maki "good fortune" plump rolls of sushi (vegetarian and seafood options) so that you can enjoy good fortune, and good eating throughout the year!

Guest Instructor HIROKO SASAKI is a master at teaching others and will have you making great-looking, great-tasting rolled sushi by lunchtime. Feast on the results in class.

Elizabeth will be on hand to explain the festival of SETSUBUN and help you make fun decorations (monster-masks and bean-bags) to take home and share with your family and friends.
